On Deck X - A Fundraiser for Skateparks Across Montana

It's that time of year again- Montana Skatepark Association's annual "On Deck" auction! Proceeds benefit skateparks across Montana, and I am proud to say this is the fourth year I have been able to contribute to the cause. I learned about the auction in 2011, stopped producing art nearly all together in 2012, and got back into the swing of things in 2013. Below are my three prior donations.

From left to right: "Bound" 2011, "The Guardian" 2013, and "Underwater Love" 2014

This year marks On Deck X. As it is the tenth anniversary, I think the guys and gals over at Montana Skatepark Association have a few fun things planned, AND the artist lineup is amazing!

For my contribution this year, I decided to keep with the flow-y haired, starry night theme I've brought into previous boards. Here are some work in progress shots:

I started by sanding the board and applying a teal and umber acrylic wash. Then, I sketched her out- in pencil first, then ink. Her hair was finished with acrylic paint, and the rest of the color is Prismacolor colored pencil. The gold accents in the piece are liquid metallic. Finally, the hanging contraption, aka the moon, is paper I dyed with coffee and salt and sealed under a glass cabochon. So, for 2015's On Deck X, I present...

"How Stars are Born"

All boards will be up on Montana Skatepark Association's website by April 17th, when the online auction begins. Online bidding ends April 30th, and the live auction and show opens at The Brink in Missoula on May 1st (don't worry out of owners- you can still participate by proxy). The show will hang until the end of May, so if you find yourself in Missoula, MT, stop by and check it out!

Holiday MADE fair

I have been working on so many fun projects in Missoula lately. One of the most recent was illustrating this year's MADE fair poster. I love being part of this event and was totally honored when I was asked to design the poster. I had a blast making it and I absolutely love the way it turned out.

I hope to see you there on December 14th!
